About Safina Cottages

Safina Cottages opened in December 2012. Since then, we have become a fixture in Diani, and many of our guests return time and again.

Safina comes from Swahili and translates to “Noah’s Ark.” Our ark is situated on a one-acre property. The heart of the complex is undoubtedly our 14 x 7 meter pool, perfect for swimming, splashing around, or simply relaxing. Sunbeds are available all around the pool, ensuring every guest can find their favorite spot. Our magnificent, mature trees offer plenty of shady spots, but sun worshippers won’t be disappointed either.

Our ark is intended to be a place of relaxation and rejuvenation. A place for travelers who want to spend their vacation away from mass tourism—individually yet well-cared-for. Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, with family, or in a group—everyone is welcome at our ark!

We live on the property ourselves and are therefore available to answer any questions from our guests. We are happy to provide tips on leisure activities (excursions, activities, events, nightlife, restaurants, safaris, etc.) or assist with planning and booking.

Our property is designed for self-catering. All accommodations are fitted with a fully equipped kitchen. There is no restaurant on the property. However, drinking water can be purchased from us, and a private chef can also be booked (for an additional fee and with advance notice). There are also numerous restaurants in Diani if ​​you prefer to eat out.

Our building plans were implemented by a local architect and contractor. It was important to us to work closely with the local community throughout the entire construction phase, thereby directly creating jobs and supporting local craftsmen.

A word about security: Despite much progress, Kenya is still a poor country, and burglaries in unsecured houses can occur. To ensure our guests’ safety, our property is surrounded by a 2-meter perimeter wall. Our property is secured with an additional security fence and an alarm system. Our private security personnel are on premises 24/7.
